Wriggle Wriggle (くねくね Kunekune), also translated as the Wiggly Figure, was an upper-class evil spirit who made his home ruining the crops of a farmer.

Appearance[]

Wiggly Figure (true form)

Wriggle Wriggle's true form

Wriggle Wriggle was a spirit that resided among the plants of the land. After first hiding inside a crude scarecrow in a farmer's field, he amassed roots together to take the form of a rudimentary face and limbless body wearing the scarecrow's hat. Wriggle Wriggle's true form was the remains of a skull with the bottom jaw missing.

Personality[]

Wriggle Wriggle was a very haughty spirit. He was confident in his powers and believed that he was entitled to consume everything in the fields of the farmer he was terrorizing. He taunted Mob and resorted to holding Reigen hostage to gain the upper hand in their battle.

History[]

Wriggle Wriggle's exact origins are unknown. He had been haunting and ruining the crops of the farmer for three years before Reigen and Mob arrived to exorcise him.[1]

Wriggle Wriggle revealed himself when Arataka Reigen and Mob came to exorcise him on behalf of the farmer of the field that he lived in. After Mob blew away the scarecrow, Wriggle Wriggle showed his true power and entangled the two in a mass of roots. Mob initially tried blasting all of the roots to destroy him, to no avail. After Wriggle Wriggle planted the two of them under the earth, Mob learned how to control the plants enabling him to override Wriggle Wriggle's control. After being dug out of the ground, Wriggle Wriggle tried to attack again, but Mob quickly exorcised him for good.

Powers & Abilities[]

Scarecrow1

Wriggle Wriggle's scarecrow

Wriggle Wriggle was a powerful upper-class-level evil spirit who could possess inanimate objects, as seen when he possessed both a scarecrow and a mass of plant roots.[2] As Mob noted, the plants were not a part of his spirit body, and he was merely exerting control over them. He could absorb the life force of the crops of the land,[3] which was the reason for the farmers' crops failing. He described this as "eating" them.

Notes[]

  • The face of the scarecrow Wriggle Wriggle possessed is known as Henohenomoheji and is a face drawn by schoolchildren using hiragana characters. It is commonly seen as the face of scarecrows as well.
