"Getting Carried Away ~100%~" is the twenty-eighth episode of the Mob Psycho 100 anime adaptation, and third episode of the third season.
Synopsis[]
Mob is in a great mood after he gets to talk with Tsubomi, and meets Ichi and Tome, who both suddenly want his attention. Soon Emi points out how he has become quite popular (with girls), and this leads to Mob getting a bit carried away with the thought.
Meanwhile, a group of religious organizations, such as The Testimony of the Earth, The Dragon's Sigh, and Teachings of Green, have gathered to audition for the leader position for the Psycho Helmet Religion. This has led to the Rising Sun Spiritual Union and its president Kirin Jodo to also make his appearance. In the end, a mysterious entity that resembles Mob a lot, and calls himself Psycho Helmet, has decided to take the position as the founder of the Psycho Helmet Religion.
Plot[]
Outside in Salt Middle School's courtyard, Tsubomi overhears her friends talking about being newly single and rejected people they know as she fiddles with her phone. After being asked if she wants to do some karaoke after school, Tsubomi declines and then sneezes, which causes a fountain of snot to drip from her nose. Covering up her face, Tsubomi tries to leave, but her friends goad her into seeing her face. Acting as a saving grace, Mob informs the two girls that their teacher wants a word with them and hands Tsubomi some tissues once they're gone. Mob then has a small chat with Tsubomi, who, in the end, says, "See you later", which leaves him absolutely elated.
After school, Mezato approaches Mob to invite him to the Psycho Helmet Cult meeting on Sunday night. Right as Mob declines, Tome appears and reminds him that he promised to help her find telepaths on that day. When Mezato and Tome are out of the picture, Emi appears behind Mob, commenting that he's rather popular, and leaves. The comment brings Mob to the realization of his newfound popularity with girls and how he briefly talked with Tsubomi. Ritsu approaches Mob, asking if he'd like to walk home together, and Mob confesses that he may be becoming "popular", but dismisses this and suggests they walk home. As they do, girls from their school all look at Mob with affection, causing him to go "High Horse 100%".
Followers of the Divine Tree gather around their divinity and transfer their spiritual desires into it, which Dimple collects for himself and vows to become the god they all pray for. Later that night, Mob receives a phone call from Mezato, who tries to convince him to attend the audition for the Psycho Helmet leadership. What motivated him the most about the offer was how popular he'd be, and how Tsubomi would attend. Believing that people are "relying on him" to attend, Dimple appears before Mob and is briefed on Mob's situation; he then opines his thoughts on the situation. After this, Dimple tries to cajole Mob into partaking in the Psycho Helmet Cult leadership audition with him, but he questions Dimple's motives and, in the end, rejects his offer.
The following day, at the Spirits and Such Consultation Office, the workers enjoy some takoyaki. Reigen then asks Seriazawa how his time at school is going, and he answers how difficult, but manageable it is for him. Switching over to Mob, who asks why Reigen is asking them that out of the blue. Reigen answers because he's bored, and the recent jobs they've received are odd jobs. Dismissing the two for the day, Reigen corrects himself saying that he'd like to talk to Mob about the "interesting thing" he's going through. Mob reveals it to Reigen and, before he leaves, also informs him about the invitation for the Psycho Helmet Cult Leader audition invitations he's received as well. Taking out his laptop, Reigen researches the cult, and initially hesitates Mob to attend, but after seeing the believer count, demands that he attends. To help Mob dress appropriately for the event, Reigen gives him 5k yen to buy some nice threads for himself.
Afterward, Mob runs into Teru, who joins him in finding some new clothes for himself. As they walk down the city streets, Teru mentions the abnormal roots popping up around the city, but Mob mentions how people of the opposite sex are attracted to him now. Eventually, the two go to a store where Mob purchases a shirt that fits his price range, but questions if it's appropriate due to its atypical monkey motif design. He then tries to contact Tome, but she doesn't answer her phone.
Meanwhile, at the Psycho Helmet Cult HQ, various religious groups, including the Rising Sun Spiritual Union, attend a convention meeting concerning the Cult's new leader. Who is said to be an emissary of the Divine Tree, and on Mob's side, he's unable to contact Mezato. Watching a live stream from his apartment, Reigen wonders where Mob is at. The new cult leader appears before the masses, introduces himself as Psycho Helmet, promises to bring the world happiness, and takes credit for creating the Divine Tree. His announcement brings the audience there into a raging fit, hence Psycho Helmet proves his words by summoning a giant stalk of broccoli underneath his feet.
